| Useful Book, Possibly Useful DVDThe Princeton Review has a long reputation for producing useful test review books. The Cracking the LSAT book itself is actually a great place to start for LSAT Review. The explanations are simple, as are the diagramming methods. The simulated questions in the book tend to be somewhat easier than real LSAT questions, so you will want to move on to something more advanced after this, such as real Preptests or the Powerscore books, which use real LSAT questions.
But if you are on this page, I assume you are wondering whether the DVD is worth the extra $10 vs the standalone book Cracking the LSAT, 2010 Edition (Graduate School Test Preparation)
The DVD is about an hour long and covers everything in the book in an abbreviated form. The DVD actually makes a good introduction to the material, and, if you are someone who doesn't have a lot of experience learning independently from books (i.e. without a teacher), you may find the DVD explanation helpful, in the sense it walks you through each area of the test and teaches you some basic tactics. That being said, there is nothing special in the DVD that the book lacks. The actors are in their mid-20s and I would say that the filming isn't very polished; one of the actors does not enunciate very well. The simulated questions on the DVD are actually kind of hard to read on-screen, given that they have been scanned somehow to screen rather than typed with some kind of digital video editing software.
In short, for $10, the DVD only makes sense if this is your first exposure to LSAT training or if you really do prefer to be spoon fed information. If you know how to take notes from a book and learn from them, then you might prefer to buy the version without the DVD. Read more...

| If you have thought of a question about going to/getting in/staying in (etc... ) law school, chances are this book answers it.Later in Life Lawyers is the equivalent to sitting down and picking the brains of those who have "been there, done that." The author weaves priceless real world advice with solid writing direction to create this easy to read fundamental handbook for ANYONE considering law school - not just those who are later in life.
Most of us immediately poll spouses, friends and family before making a huge decision. Face it, if your social circle is anything like mine, you are bound to come up lacking when you begin to pose questions about law school. This book fills the gap between the lack of practical advice and abundance of glossy advertisements for books that guarantee you a smooth law school experience but rarely deliver.
By harvesting thoughtful and insightful answers from [...], Later in Life Lawyers allows you to gain insight from others in a similar situation who share advice from the trenches instead of a lofty commercially orientated perch which is designed to sell books. Organized in a clean, easy-find fashion, I found many tips and tricks I had not even considered before leafing through the book. As a 2L who has hit her share of bumps and bruises, I was able to relate to the integrated postings from the website and found solace from others who had similar negative (and positive!) experiences.
While there are postings from the nontradlaw user forum, the book does not completely rely upon the forum site, and you would lose out on lots of valuable information if you simply posted on the forum without utilizing the book. Besides the solid organization, the writer sews the concepts together in a way that creates a great overall read, not to mention a fundamental tool for all stages of your law school career.
I have no complaints, although I would recommend that you keep your copy close because you are going to refer to it time and time again. I would buy this book for friends or family considering law school since I will not give up my own copy!

Great Book to UseThis book is really really good. It goes through all game types. It starts out every section with the game type and goes through IN DEPTH diagrams and psychology of each in 3 or 4 games with 8 typical LSAT questions following each. Then after the explained 3 or 4 LSAT games, it gives you 4 more that you do on your own and they provide semi-lengthy explanations of. At the end you have two practice tests. One that you do before using the book and one that you do after reading the book so that you can see how much you improved by. Very good book. This book was created by a group of Harvard law school graduates. They did an excellent job. Read more...

| Grouped by Passage Type is Better Than Kaplan LSAT Mastery PracticeIn a few days, I will post a more detailed review of this book on my LSAT blog. However, I just wanted to briefly note that this book is much better than the previous alternative, Kaplan LSAT Mastery Practice.
Grouped by Passage Type contains every LSAT Reading Comprehension passage from PrepTests 1-20, so it includes some Reading Comp passages that are otherwise out-of-print and difficult to find in book form. It organizes Reading Comp passages according to various categories, but it also goes beyond the traditional Natural Science, Social Science Humanities, and Law categories.
For example, it divides Humanities passages into the categories of Art, Literature, and Music & Poetry.
The Kaplan Mastery book just sticks with the 4 basic categories and doesn't do a more detailed breakdown, which would allow you to focus on specific areas. (The Mastery Practice book also just includes a random assortment of passages.)
This book is definitely worth getting if you plan to go through Reading Comp passages in PrepTests 1-20.

| Very helpful and well organizedAs a science/engineering student I was having more trouble with this section than others. This book did a wonderful job of introducing the different types of passages as well as the different question types. Simply knowing this information makes it much easier (and a lot faster) to analyze a passage and its questions. I highly recommend this book.
As far as "marking up the passage," I found that I did use these tricks to train myself what to pay attention to, after a few passages though, I needed only to underline or circle a few things, which added no time to my reading of the passage. Also, this book contains tactics and information on the Comparative Reading which some of the other books did not.
I worked my way through the entire book (I borrowed it from my local library), and though it is often repetitive - it is an extremely realistic way to study for this section. I couldn't be happier with my improvement.
